Points from GPS Unit in Lat and Long

I got a call the other day from a customer that was using a GPS unit and his .csv file was in Lat and Long Decimal Degrees.  He wanted to bring in the points to Civil 3D.

He brought the points into Civil 3D using the “out of the box” point file format XYZ.  The point came in almost on top of each other.  I reviewed the .csv file and saw that the points were in Lat and Long decimal degrees with a (-) negative Longitude.

Anyway, to make a short story long, what needed to be done was to create a new point file format and transform the points into State Plane coordinates.

Make sure when you press the play button, you select the option for Full Size so you can view it in Full Screen Mode.
